MASA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM 2022/2024

KUALA LUMPUR, Mon – Shared Prosperity is Government’s commitment to develop the nation sustainably, along with fair, equitable and inclusive economic distribution at all levels of income groups, ethnicities and supply chains.

It aims to bring the country’s prosperity and political stability to new heights besides ensuring that the people are united without prejudice in celebrating the diversity of races and cultures as the basis of unification and solidarity.

In line with Institut Masa Depan Malaysia (MASA)’s aspiration to be an independent think tank that aligns with national policy ideas and analysis guided by the value of shared prosperity, it greatly appreciates the support by scholars, policy makers and industry players who are among the important contributors towards Malaysia’s socio-economic development in the context of Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV2030).

MASA Fellowship Program was introduced in 2021 after receiving approval from Board of Trustees (BoT) to enable MASA to optimize advice and expertise directly in their respective research fields through lecture series, focus group discussions (FGD), workshops and module preparations.

This year, MASA has introduced Associate Members as one of the divisions under its Fellowship Program to provide opportunities for Associate Members comprising prominent university lecturers, celebrities, sportsmen, heads of non-governmental organizations, youth leaders and media representatives to contribute their ideas and energy in research and community development activities.

All appointed members with extensive experiences in several focus areas of MASA research which is sustainable development across economic, social and political aspects, will be assisting MASA in providing input on policy proposals to assist the National Recovery Council (NRC) and the Government implement all efforts and programmes listed under National Recovery Plan (NRP) 2.0, with focus on strengthening the economic sector and finetuning measures during this endemicity stage of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through this programme, MASA’s other research focus areas such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sociocultural system can be strengthened in accordance with MASA’s vision and mission to become a respected think tank and producing high-quality research.

Among Honorary Fellows and Fellows appointed were Distinguished Professor Dato’ Dr Rajah Rasiah, Distinguished Professor of Economics at the Asia Europe Institute, University of Malaya; Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, Rector of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM); Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Teo Kok Seong, Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; Professor Datuk Seri Dr. Awang Sariyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP); Professor Datuk Dr. Azizan Baharuddin, Director, Centre for Civilizational Dialogue, Universiti Malaya; Datuk Dr. Habibah Abdul Rahim, National Recovery Council Member who is concurrently Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM); Prof. Dr. Fatimah Kari, Honorary Professor of the Centre for Poverty and Development Studies (CPDS), Universiti Malaya (UM) and Dr. Shankaran Nambiar, Senior Research Fellow, Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER).

Young leaders such as Cik Sharifah Norizah Syed Ahamad Kabeer, Chief Executive Officer of ASEAN Youth Network Resources (AYN) and Cik Siti Aishah Hassan Hasri who is Founder of SPOT Community Project Malaysia were among young leaders appointed as Associate Members.

Popular media representatives including Head and Editor-In-Chief of Astro Awani, Encik Ashwad Ismail and Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) personality, Encik Mohd Ismail Adnan also joined MASA’s list of Associate Members.

MASA would like to thank and congratulate all Honorary Fellows, Fellows and Associate Members over their appointments. Hopefully, they can help MASA in carrying out its functions and promoting the value of shared prosperity.
