KOTA KINABALU: The government may consider putting a deadline on the Covid-19 vaccine registration to ensure a smooth immunisation process, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“I proposed that we might need to set a deadline; we cannot open (the registration) forever. For example, let’s say if we close by June, those who did not register by the end of the month will not get the vaccination.
“This will ease the immunisation committee to plan everything in detail,” he said during the Sabah townhall session on Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 on Monday (March 22).
Earlier, he had called on Sabahans to register for the vaccine as soon as possible.
At the same time, he admitted that studies on the vaccines for the virus in general are not perfected yet, for example feedback from those vaccinated still needed to be obtained.
“We also do not know whether we need to take the vaccination annually or only once (in our lifetime). So, we are not sure of some things yet. But our target is still 80% of the population (in Malaysia) to be vaccinated,” he added.
Muhyiddin said to date, over 400,000 frontliners have received the jab, closer to the 500,000 target for frontliners, while more than six million have registered for the vaccine via MySejahtera app so far.
