International Day to Combat Islamophobia

Islamophobia is a phenomenon deeply rooted in misunderstanding and radical ethno-nationalism in some parts of the world. Discrimination tears apart communities and people, riling hate and violence across the globe.

 

The United Nations (UN) has decided on 15th of March every year to mark the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. This is in line with its motto that strives for peace and equity. To quote António Guterres, the Secretary-General of UN, “We must strengthen our defence by pushing for policies that fully respect human rights and protect religious and cultural identities.”
