On 27 February 2024, Institut Masa Depan Malaysia (MASA) organised a closed session of Roundtable Discussion with Islamic legal experts and scholars to preserve compliance with the amendments to the Federal Constitution with Shariah Law, as well as adjust the jurisdiction at the federal and state levels.
Among those who attended the session were:
1. YBhg. Profesor Madya Datuk Dr. Marzuki Mohamad, Member of the Board of Trustees of the MASA Institute and Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, International Islamic University Malaysia;
2. YBhg. Dato’ Mohamad Asri Abdullah, Former Chief Syarie Judge of Perak;
3. YBrs. Dr. Nurul Haq Shahrir, United Nations Shariah and Religious Reference Expert;
4. YBrs. Dr. Fauziah Mohd. Noor, Senior Lecturer at Islamic Business School, Universiti Utara Malaysia;
5. YBrs. Dr. Fatimah Yusro, University Lecturer, Centre for Malaysian & Comparative Legal Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia
6. YBrs. Encik Lukman Sherif Alias, Co-Managing Partner, ZUL RAFIQUE & Partners; and
7. YBrs. Encik Mohd Shukri Ahmad Mansor, Partner, Asmah Shukri & Co.
The discussion session was also attended by YBrs. Encik Azril Mohd Amin as the Chief Executive Officer of MASA.
The session organised by MASA focused on discussions on legal loopholes that need to be corrected immediately.
Through the discussion session, there are several problems that have been outlined and followed along with suggestions that can be worked on to preserve and adjust the law in Malaysia.\
